Your Privacy is Our Promise: How We Safeguard Your Data
In today’s world, privacy is a critical concern, especially when it comes to personal genetic information. At Inagene, we understand the importance of protecting your data and have implemented robust measures to help ensure your DNA remains secure and confidential. Our commitment is straightforward: Your privacy is our promise. In this article, we outline how we uphold this commitment and safeguard your genetic information.
Our Privacy Policy Explained
Here are a few ways we try to keep your personal information and DNA safe:
-
Anonymize Your DNA Sample:
When you submit your DNA sample to us, it is completely anonymous. This means that your sample is labeled in a way that it cannot be traced back to you. Furthermore, the genetic information we analyze is used solely for the purpose of providing you with personalized health insights. We sequence and look at less than 200 base pairs of your entire genome (a base pair is a single A, T, C or G of your DNA). For context, your genome is composed of 3 billion base pairs. This means, we only sequence and are able to see 0.0000066% of your genetic information, which does not include any identifying information. This ensures that even within our testing process, your identity remains confidential and secure.
-
Separate Personal Information & Testing Data:
We have a strict policy to never share your personal information with our lab. This means that our lab and lab technicians that conducts the genetic testing do not have access to any of your personal details, such as your name, address, or any other identifying information. This separation ensures that the individuals handling your DNA sample cannot associate it with your personal identity. Our process is designed to maintain a clear boundary between your personal information and the scientific analysis of your DNA, providing an additional layer of security.
-
Secure Destruction of DNA Samples:
Once your DNA testing is complete, your sample is securely destroyed; unless you request that we keep it for future testing as new science arises. With that said, we understand the sensitivity of your genetic material and take all necessary precautions to ensure it is handled and disposed of in a secure manner. The destruction of your DNA sample means that there is no lingering genetic material that could be accessed or misused in the future. This step is a crucial part of our commitment to maintaining the privacy and security of your genetic information.
-
Encrypt Your Test Results:
Your test results are not only kept confidential but also securely encrypted. Encryption is a method of converting information into a code to prevent unauthorized access. This ensures that your genetic data is stored safely and is only accessible to you and authorized personnel within Inagene. By encrypting your test results, we add an additional layer of security, protecting your data from potential breaches or unauthorized access.
We're Transparent To Earn Your Trust
Privacy is a big concern when it comes to genetic testing. We believe in transparency and strive to build trust with our customers. We want you to feel confident and reassured that your DNA is in safe hands with us. Unlike some large pharmaceutical companies, our primary focus is on providing personalized genetic insights to help you make informed health decisions. We are not involved in the commercialization of your genetic data or its use for purposes beyond your consent. Our approach is centered on respecting your privacy and delivering valuable health information in a secure and confidential manner.
